Things to do in Dittisham

Dittisham

Crabbing

Catching crabs off the pontoons at Dittisham is practically an institution for families holidaying in Dittisham.  All you need are a few crabbing lines and a bucket and off you go.  What could be nicer on a hot summer’s day than the delighted shrieks of children as another catch of crabs is hauled up.

With refreshments on hand, courtesy of the Ferry Boat Inn and the Anchorstone Café,  there is something simply magical about whiling the day away in this beautiful spot.

Agatha Christie's Greenway

Murder & Mystery

A short ferry ride across the river and you are on the Greenway Estate.  Now carefully looked after by the National Trust, Greenway was the former holiday home of internationally renowned author Agatha Christie.

The house and grounds are open to the public and are well-worth the trip over the river.  The house gives a fascinating insight into Christie’s life and inspirations.

Messing about on the River

Messing about in Boats

“There’s nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as messing about in boats.”  So said Ratty in Wind in the Willows and Dittisham is the perfect place for doing just that.

The stretch of the river from Dittisham over to Galmpton is the widest on the Dart and is perfect for dinghy sailing, kayaking and generally just breezing around.  You can hire boats locally or launch your own from the Ham.
